She felt horrible. All I can say is just be honest. But it was awkward for me and I know it was for her. Better to let them know up front and online rather than IRL where it is awkward for everyone. Historically, save for perhaps NYE, I tended to expect dating partners to focus on their families and work parties and similar during this time.
