I strongly urge that you examine your own opinions of why this tangle has happened, and do your part to make sure that you aren't contributing to it. What does your relationship have to do with her career? Housing and love should not be intertwined either. Her overwhelmed feeling is due to the fact that she's tangled her life up by putting dependencies where they don't exist. Why? Work and love life should NOT be intertwined. It's easy to fall into this trap, but that's what it is. One's life shouldn't be a house of cards that can fall apart by moving one card.

I've said things to this effect on here before but I think part of the reason why people perceive that "nice guys finish last" is that people think they are a lot nicer than they actually are. The vast majority aren't, as a matter of fact. Whereas with looks, there are visual benchmarks and people have a more realistic picture of where they stand.

I am not good at dancing around things like that...I'd probably just ask, people around or not...say something like, "I heard you have a g/f .... My friend got flowers from her boyfriend, but no special occasion or fight..." and see what he says?
