It's not plausible given the circumstances of the environment. For an auto mechanic, a 100% success rate is very plausible. It's like expecting a hitter to hit a home run every time.

But for you, it evidently is a big problem and he knows this. I think (he's a foreigner, right?) that he really doesn't consider his smoking and drinking a real problem. A lot of Europeans don't. It is a cultural thing. He's entitled to think this. I don't think he wants to change and this makes him feel pressured and cornered. None of the issues have really been resolved so you are both back at square one. You have only been together a short time and yet you have already broken up once over serious issues.

I was because I still love her. Not wanting anyone to suspect anything, she came out with me and a friend and we got on ok, no hint of any trouble between us but on the drive home I told her I was still struggling to accept it, she broke down again because she thought I was being genuine when we were out.
