Yet it's unacceptable to kick a child so young out onto the street. If those laws really made so little sense, and were so unhealthy for our society, wouldn't we have repealed them by now? Labor laws restrict their working hours and choices of occupation. Until a child turns between sixteen and eighteen, her transportation is limited to what an adult can provide, be that adult a bus driver, a parent, or simply someone over the age of majority. Wouldn't we have begun a push towards the shortening of childhood, from its current full eighteen years (or better, in some cases!) to fourteen or fifteen?

It's amazing just how ignorant immigrants and current Americans in general are of the continued social and economic consequences of slavery and racism in this country. People have this false notion that every has the same opportunities, but that has not been nor is it today true. Our history of slavery, the FORCED relinquishment of said institution by government and war and the civil rights era laws have painted blacks as having less motivation, intelligence, etc. The suspicion and animosity towards blacks in particular are very American.

What I want to do is get him comfortable enough with me so that he knows he can be open with me and trust me. Right now, conversations between the two of us are still very awkward, and it frustrates and discourages me. Does he want me to approach him? I know I have to be patient with him, and I will be. Except, I can't help feeling that maybe I have a completely wrong read on him.

People are on those sites for their own reasons so you never know why people aren't responding. Mostly I was looking for somone I thought I might be compatible with but they were extremely rare. I'm usually very turned-off by guys who appear vain or overtly sexual.

I've tried to handle this the right way because I want to believe everything he tells me. I feel kinda down about that and I feel you're right, the ground has been set.
